Zydeco’s poor men’s room layout

Okay, I love Zydeco and all, I think it’s one of the best restaurants in town, but I have to say, they have possibly the worst men’s room layout of any place I’ve been. Why is that, you ask?

Well, as you open the door, the first thing you see—as well as any diners sitting at the table looking down the hall—is the urinal. Right there in the open door. There is zero privacy for anyone using it. Here’s a diagram I whipped up to give you an idea of what I mean:

You walk in and pow! There it is.

It’s been like this for awhile… all they’d have to do is turn the door around so that it opens on the other side, shielding the urinal from view. Why hasn’t anybody thought of this?

  1. A 5-foot radius AS you walk (or wheel) into the room is mandatory. From your drawing, it looks like if the door were swinging the other way, you wouldn’t have that radius. Just pretend for a moment that you were in a wheelchair, and then it’ll make sense.

I’m having to re-visit all of our floorplans as if I were in a wheelchair right now, and it’s a very enlightening perspective.

Again, I’m just guessing based on your drawing of the oh-so-lovely urinal that you’ve noted. You’re such an artist!

  2. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I tried to keep the drawing more-or-less to scale, based on my memory. In that case, the only other option would be to swap the sink and the urinal, which is waaaaay more problematic…

  3. LOL… we went to Zydeco for the first time last Friday (YUM!) and that was Scott’s only negative comment as well! He *hated* the bathroom!
