This is one of those things that I find kind of bizarre but it amuses me so I’m running the press release. Obviously it’s modeled on the "Next Design Star" and "Next Food Network Star" kind of shows, but I’d be even more interested if it took on an "Iron Chef" twist. Like who can best decorate the room in one hour, in head-to-head competition or something.

Do you have an eye for color and a flair for style? Are you passionate about interior decorating and design? Then the Central Oregon Builder’s Association (COBA) and BendBroadband want you to be Central Oregon’s Next Design Star!

Designers must submit an application and design portfolio to BendBroadband by September 12. Local judges will select three Central Oregon designers to showcase their talents on television and at the COBA Fall Home ShowTM October 17-19 in three 10×10 foot dream rooms built by Fuqua Homes Design Center.

The designers will pair up with local furniture, window covering, lighting, flooring and home accessory sponsors to design and select the elements for their 10×10 foot room. After choosing the elements for their designs, the contestants will have 48 hours to paint, load, arrange and create their DesignStar masterpiece.

During the COBA Fall Home ShowTM the public will be invited to vote on their favorite design and enter for a chance to win an 26" Sharp HDTV courtesy of Central Oregon Cable Advertising (COCA). The designer with the most votes will be crowned Central Oregon’s Next Design Star. COCA will feature the winning Designer in their own custom television campaign. The winner will also appear as a regular guest on COTV 11’s Good Morning Central Oregon and win exclusive prizes from Home and Garden Television and our DesignStar Sponsors.
