Press Release: The United Way Seeks Volunteer Teams for Days of Caring

Yes, I’m behind on posting stuff, apologies. This press release is from two weeks ago, but still relevant.

The United Way of Deschutes County is seeking volunteer teams from area businesses as well as individuals to lend a hand during the 13th annual Days of Caring to be held May 29 & 30.

Days of Caring, the signature event of the United Way of Deschutes County, is a county-wide effort matching local businesses and individuals with non-profit agencies for a day of community service. Projects are scheduled during three different time periods—Friday morning, Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Volunteers can help repair and paint bicycles, build sandboxes for children, plant flowers and refresh landscaping, erect a swing set for a child care facility or apply a fresh coat of paint—to name a few projects scheduled for this year.

“The collective effort of the Days of Caring participants has a dramatic and visible impact both on the community and those who become involved in the projects,” commented Terianne Petzold, director of campaign and marketing for the United Way. “In addition to being a team-building experience for employees, it also provides an opportunity for volunteers to experience the important work that non-profit agencies do every day throughout Deschutes County.”

Volunteer teams are matched according to time and skill preferences and receive lunch, and a t-shirt, in addition to the heartfelt gratitude voiced by the project coordinators.

“Working together boosts morale and allows our employees the chance to learn about the agencies and see campaign dollars at work in the community,” stated Mike Stanley, of SELCO Community Credit Union. “We are pleased to provide financial and volunteer support.” SELCO Community Credit Union will be the title sponsor for this year’s event.
