Bend’s new Mayor: Jeff Eager

Tonight was the Biennial meeting of the Bend City Council, and not only was it the swearing in of the new City Councilors (Scott Ramsay, Jodie Barram, and Jeff Eager), but the Council also elected Bend’s new Mayor: Jeff Eager.

From the City’s meeting notes:

Councilor Greene nominated Councilor Eager as Mayor of the City of Bend. Councilor Capell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously, 7/0.

Mayor Eager will focus on putting people in touch with their City government, ensuring that citizens feel they are being heard and decisions are made based on citizen input. He supports, along with other members of Council, an elected mayor in the future.

That last bit is interesting, because currently the Bend Mayor is selected by the City Council and not by general election.

Also, Jodie Barram was elected Mayor Pro Tem (essentially the “Vice Mayor” position).

Congrats to both the new City Councilors and the new Mayor!
