St. Patrick’s Day Guide: The Events

Lots of things going on this week for St. Patrick’s Day. I’ve been scouring the local web (and been getting emails too) to compile a (hopefully!) fairly comprehensive list. (Big thanks to The Source for many of the events from their calendar.)

And of course, if there’s anything I missed, feel free to leave a note in the comments, or contact me directly and I’ll update this post accordingly.

First of all, if you’re looking for beer on St. Patrick’s Day—and I fully expect that you are—I posted a beer list over on The Brew Site, running down what the breweries and a couple of the beer bars will be offering for the holiday.

McMenamins Old St. Francis School has a three-day celebration featuring lots of (free!) live music as well as an Irish-themed menu of food and drink. Music kicks off at 5pm each day, and there’s a lot of it.

Silver Moon Brewing is hosting Laurel Brauns and The Sweet Harlots for a “rousing sing-along featuring all of your favorite drinking songs and more,” starting at 8pm. Mark Ransom and Julie Southwell are also featured, and songbooks will be provided.

“The Commitments,” the 1991 movie about Dubliners trying to bring soul music to Ireland, is playing at The Tower Theatre starting at 8pm. General admission is $5.

The Wine Shop, located downtown on Minnesota across from the St. Clair building and next to Thump Coffee, is offering “Beer specials all day! Buy one glass of wine and get the second half off!”

The Jackalope Grill is featuring specials from Ireland on the 17th (though I don’t have a specific menu).

Seven Nightclub apparently already has an Irish Pub Menu regularly—and Thursday they’re celebrating the one-year anniversary with a “Blame it on the Alcohol” St. Patrick’s Day party.

Amalia’s in downtown Bend is having a “Mexican St. Patrick’s Day” (as one ad I saw put it) or a “St. Patty’s Green Card Party” (as The Source’s calendar lists it), with lots of specials, and live comedy starting at 7pm with Last Comic Standing winner Jim Mortenson.

The Domino Room is having their “Harp Hall Annual St. Patty’s Day March & Party”: “Featuring Bend’s original Celtic rock band Five Pint Mary. With special guest appearance by the Bend Fire Pipes & Drum Band. $5. Free to all Harp Hall members in good standing.” From 7:30 until 10pm. I don’t know how to become a Harp Hall member (you can read up on the history of Harp Hall at my link above), but that’s a good deal.

Velvet—the only place in Bend pouring Three Creeks Brewing‘s Irish Stout, for only $3 a pint no less—has a St. Patrick’s edition of their Red Velvet Comedy Night (free) and will also be serving up green drinks.

JC’s Bar and Grill will be featuring live music from KC Flynn all night starting at 6pm, with Bend Fire Pipes & Drums playing at 6:30 and 8:45, and they’ll be offering corned beef brisket, along with Guinness, green beer, Irish car bombs, and other drink specials.
