Deschutes’ The Stoic release

You know there has to be an inevitable beer post from time to time, right? This week Deschutes Brewery is releasing their much-talked-about collaboration beer with Portland’s Hair of the Dog, which they’re calling The Stoic: a “Belgian Quad” style of beer that is 11% alcohol by volume, brewed with pomegranate molasses, and aged in rye whiskey and Pinot wine barrels. It’s a beer geek’s beer.

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 16th) Deschutes is releasing this beer at the pub where you can purchase bottles (no doubt at least $12), drink the beer, and enjoy a “Stoic inspired specials menu”. Usually these type of releases kick off at 5pm (though they don’t have it listed on their Events page directly) so that’s probably a safe bet.

Update: Even beer geeks like myself get confused from time to time. The Stoic itself is not part of the Hair of the Dog collaboration, see comments below.

  1. Hello…this is Gina from Deschtues Brewery! Although we did taste and post about the Hair of the Dog Collaboration brew called Conflux No. 1, that beer has not yet been released and still await a release date for that brew. The Stoic is part of our Reserve Series like The Abyss, The Dissident & Black Butte XXIII. This is the beer that will be released tonight at our Bend and Portland Pubs. The Stoic is a Belgian style quad of great strength with bolder flavor compared to its Dubbel and Tripel sister styles. Full bodied with a rich malty palate & sweet with a low bitterness yet a well perceived alcohol. We hope you are able to give it a try!

  2. Okay, so The Stoic is not also the Hair of the Dog collaboration? I thought it was, and then the blending was also—it’s easy to get confused! Good to know, thanks!
