Railroad Day

Railroad DayWednesday, October 5th, the Des Chutes Historical Museum is hosting Railroad Day at the Old Depot at the Art Station in the Old Mill District. It runs from 3:30 to 6:30pm, and is a completely free event; the Museum website says:

Bring your family and friends and celebrate 100 years of the railroad. Games, arts and crafts, mini train rides, model trains, tours of the historic depot, and a re-enactment of the driving of the Golden Spike highlight a celebration of the arrival of the railroad, as our predecessors celebrated in 1911. Music provided by the Summit Jazz Band, root beer floats and popcorn served by the Bend City Council. Sponsored by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation and our partners: the Old Mill District, Arts Central and Art Station, and the City of Bend.

And a more in-depth list of activities (which was emailed to me):

  • Kids’ Railroad art projects
  • Antique Model Trains
  • Blacksmithing Demonstrations
  • Music by the Summit Jazz Band
  • Miniature Train Rides courtesy of the Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association
  • A Reinactment of James Hill’s Speech and driving of the Golden Spike at 5pm
  • Rootbeer Floats served by the Bend City Council

The Art Depot is located at 313 Shevlin-Hixon Drive, just northeast of the Les Schwab Amphitheater.
