New candy shop for the Old Mill

Bonbons colorésNews and a press release came out the other day for the imminent opening of the Sweet Tooth Candy Shoppe in the Old Mill District, slated for mid-July (also on KTVZ). From the press release:

This summer, it will be even easier for Bend, Oregon residents and visitors to satisfy their sugary cravings with the upcoming opening of Sweet Tooth Candy Shoppe in the Old Mill District. Sweet Tooth will offer a large variety of candy, from more than 400 bulk candy choices all the way to specialty Japanese candy and gift items. The store is being designed by a prop company that does custom work in Disneyland in order to give visitors a fun and memorable experience when they visit.

In addition to a vast array of candy choices, the shop will also sell candy-themed gift items plus “fill it yourself” candy containers, which customers can choose to fill with their favorite candy. Just a few of the candies available include salt water taffy, novelty candy, retro candy, lollipops, sugar-free candy, and, of course, chocolate!

Judging by what I’ve seen of Powell’s, I suspect this new shop will do pretty well. (It’s probably good that it isn’t another frozen yogurt shop!)

  1. What’s with this proliferation of new, but useless, shops in Bend? Really, another candy shop(pe)?? Where are the Bend entrepreneurs with big ideas?

Remember when Trader Joe’s was just a seed of a thought, and the Bulletin asked readers which business they’d like to see in Bend? Powell’s Books came in something like 6th place out of 10 options. THINK ABOUT THAT, PEOPLE. POWELL’S BOOKS!!!

I hope someday Bend can live up to its promise.
