This weekend’s all about the beer

Bend BeerThis upcoming final weekend of June is a big one for local beer! To wit:

Crux Fermentation Project is having their much-anticipated grand opening on Saturday the 30th (Facebook event page). It’s taking place from 5 to 11pm and there is plenty planned:

Help us kick-start our brewery in true community fashion with a collective christening of the Crux Brewhouse. And, to ensure we celebrate in proper style, we’ll have some wonderful and unique guest beers on tap, shared by friends in the industry.

We’re turning our parking lot into festival grounds for this all-out, family-friendly event. Take a tour of our brewery and Tasting Room, enjoy a delicious BBQ and get jiggy with live good-times-dancing music. From Bend we have Kentucky’s LongRifle and Boxcar Stringband— making the trip down from Portland to close out the night— Hopeless Jack & the Handsome Devil. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be dancing, beers in hand.

At 8pm, we’ll hold a special toast centered on the brewhouse christening. And, the community is invited to play a special part. Everyone’s invited to bring an object that will be placed in a special metal box to be sealed and affixed to the deck of the brewhouse forever. This object needs to fit in a slot measuring 1/4″ by 2″. It can be a medallion, coin, note, photo, or token, that either represents you or your wishes for this new brewery. With this you will forever be a part of the Crux brewhouse and influence the soul and the sprit of each brew we produce.

They’re currently in “soft opening” mode (which you can see from their Facebook page) and just this weekend brewed their inaugural batch of beer (which won’t be ready by Saturday alas). It’s a beautiful brewery, with lots of reclaimed wood and steampunk-y decor. It’ll be a party.

Phat Matt’s Brewing is celebrating the grand opening of their own tasting room over in Redmond on Friday the 29th from 5 to 10pm. There will be live music from the Charles Button Band and the Moon Mountain Ramblers, and there will be food, swag, a raffle, and beer of course—pints and growler fills. They’re located at 580 NE Hemlock in Redmond, and the tasting room is the space they’ve expanded into next door to the brewery (all in the same building)—which I believe you can get to directly from the Bypass (if you’re heading north).

GoodLife Brewing just announced today that Saturday they are celebrating their one year anniversary: “Come join us in the Biergarten from 3pm-10pm where we will have live music, lawn games, awesome food carts, and of course, our delicious beers! All ages are welcome.” I haven’t yet seen further details on this but I can post more when I find out.

And while it’s not on the weekend, Deschutes Brewery is of course celebrating their own anniversary this week—their 24th!—on Wednesday the 27th from 5 to 11pm at the Pub downtown. It’s going to be a great mid-week celebration: “Join us at our Bend Pub to celebrate this special occasion with live music by Scott Fox, a back-alley BBQ, barrel-aged beers, firkins of fun, give-aways every 24th minute and local’s specials on the pint-of-the-day, Bachelor Bitter! The beer that started it all!!”
