Deschutes Brewery Firkin-A: Traditional Ales

Deschutes BreweryDeschutes Brewery has a cool event coming up this Tuesday the 11th at the downtown Pub as part of their Co-Op events: Firkin-A, highlighting “Traditional Ales” also known as cask-conditioned or Real Ales. These beers are served from a special cask known as a “firkin” and undergo natural carbonation in the cask rather than having carbon dioxide injected into them, giving in many ways a softer, creamier character to the beer.

Deschutes is bringing together several breweries on Tuesday for this free event:

Brewers from Worthy Brewing Company, McMenamins, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Brewers Union Local 180, & Deschutes Brewery will feature cask beer and share tasters of their product while educating you on the process. Enjoy great times, conversations, & small English Bites paired with these traditional ales!

For us beer geeky types in particular, the inclusion of Brewers Union Local 180 is the icing on the cake for this type of event: they are a brewpub in Oakridge (about 100 miles southwest of Bend) that focus exclusively on cask ales and are the only brewpub in Oregon to do so. Plus they are modeled after a traditional English pub and is one of my favorite brewpubs around. So this is going to be a very cool event!

It’s taking place from 5:30 to 7:30 in the upstairs Tap Room of the Pub.

About the Co-Op program:
