Another sign of Bend’s growth came “in the mail” Monday, courtesy of the U.S. Postal Service – a new, third ZIP Code, starting this summer.
“In order to provide efficient and cost-effective mail delivery now and for the future, the U.S. Postal Service is creating a new ZIP Code in the Bend area, effective July 1, 2015,” the agency said in its announcement.
The new ZIP Code 97703 impacts some addresses in the current 97701 area, the Postal Service said.
Beginning Monday, all postal customers affected by these changes are being notified by mail. If a customer does not receive written notification within the next week, they are NOT affected by these changes.
It’s true we already have 97707, 97708, and 97709 in use for various post office boxes, but 97703 is a new segment we haven’t seen since… well, when did 97702 go in effect anyway? Here are the defined boundaries—which basically amount to, northwest Bend west of Highway 97 and north of Skyliners Road:
Northern Boundary: All deliveries north of and including NW Skyliners Road.
Western Boundary: All deliveries west of US Highway 97.
Southern Boundary: East on NW Commerce Ave to NW Skyliner Summit Loop, then to NW Washington Drive, South of NW Lakemont Drive onto NW Skyliners Road to its end.
Eastern Boundary: From the furthest north point traveling south on US Highway 97, merging with US Highway 20, continuing south eventually merging with the Bend Parkway until it intersects with the 97702 ZIP boundary just South of NW Colorado Avenue.
Goes into effect July 1, make a note!
