Ghost hunting at the Platypus Pub

Platypus Pub

Platypus Pub

Among the supposedly haunted locations in Bend, you don’t often hear about the Platypus Pub, but it does have an entry on the Haunted Places website:

This converted church now houses a tavern, but has played host to a variety of restaurants since the 1970’s. The building is supposedly haunted, with staff and diners alike reporting a shadowy apparition and an unseen presence.

And a comment by “Denise” in 2016 gets more specific:

every time I go to use the downstairs bathroom. I get a real eery feeling walking towards it and when inside, I feel a strong presence near me. It is always there.

Big River ParanormalCurious about whether the Platypus is haunted? Well this Saturday you can possibly find out, as the Platy will be hosting ghost hunters to investigate:

The Ghost Hunters from @BigRiverParanormal (Idaho) have expressed interest in our little Haunted downstairs Pub here in Bend. They plan to examine the entire building this Saturday. The public is welcome to come meet the crew, share some personal experiences, and maybe hear some tales told by past employees of the building. One common thread that binds all of the haunted history is that it is, indeed the Ladies restroom that most folks have felt something in or near.

The time for the event is marked as starting at 8pm. I don’t know what the investigators have in mind but if you’re looking for weekend Halloween-themed things to do, this would be hard to pass up!

There is definitely some history behind the building that houses the Pub and the Brew Shop. Built in the 1950’s, it was originally a church—the Church of the Nazarene—and in the 1970’s it was sold and converted into a restaurant, the French restaurant Le Bistro. Le Bistro was open until the 90’s when it changed hands and Ernesto’s Italian Restaurant opened in 1996. Ernesto’s closed in 2008, and the building sat vacant until the Brew Shop relocated there in 2011.
