El Caporal West is now Amanda’s…?

Yesterday I saw this picture on Facebook from What The Bend, showing El Caporal West (downtown) in the process of changing signs—to “Amanda’s”. And then yesterday evening Jeff emailed to say: Heads up that El Caporal on NW Bond (at NW Franklin) changed its exterior sign today to “Amanda’s Mexican” using a sub-head that says,” … with a twist”. I called the El Caporal number and the person answering said it’s still the same restaurant and menu, with … Continue reading →

Barrio, opening March 1

I’m a little bit behind on reporting this, but there’s definitely some excitement I’ve seen over the opening of the new Barrio restaurant on March 1st. Baldyfest Customer Appreciation Week

(Wish I’d seen this sooner!) The pig roast will … Continue reading →

Typhoon! is closed

Of course the big news over the weekend is that downtown Bend’s Typhoon! Thai restaurant closed—and in fact all five of their locations are closed. It had been rumored that something like this was happening, and news hit over the weekend on Twitter first (I believe Shannon twittered it first that we saw). KTVZ followed up with a detailed story on the closing(s), which cited the death of its co-founder last year and a state … Continue reading →

Togo’s in the old Quiznos

Over on the eastside, a Togo’s Sandwich Shop is set to open in the space formerly occupied by Quiznos. According to the Bulletin, the opening should be February 1st. I know next to nothing about Togo’s as a brand, but apparently there are some 240 of them around; but it looks like pastrami is one of their big signatures. Has anyone tried them? Are they good? They should be open in a couple weeks to … Continue reading →
