Pilot Butte Drive-In will be open til 6!

Holy smokes! I just called and confirmed what my wife thought she saw on their sign: Bend’s best burger joint, the Pilot Butte Drive-In, will be staying open until 6pm starting this Monday, the 11th! It was back in July of 2004 that they announced they were cutting their dinner … Continue reading

Last year in February…

A year ago, in February 2007: The announcement that flights to Las Vegas would start later in the year for only $59; Italian restaurant Mangia Pasta closed; I found that the Redmond Spokesman has a blog; The Mercury Diner also closed (actually changed); I discovered that Eagle Crest was hosting … Continue reading

Trader Joe’s tentative date

There’s a tentative opening date for Trader Joe’s up on the north side of town: March 28. They’ve had "Bend, OR" on their Coming Soon page for awhile now, and the exterior of the building looks finished. When open, it will be the eighth Trader Joe’s in Oregon.

Mardi Gras redux

Tomorrow being Mardi Gras, I ran into the same problem I found last year while updating the events calendar: nothing Mardi Gras-related going on locally that I can find. Winter weather notes

– With schools closed today and snow everywhere and much of the town on lockdown (not really—but the police are urging people to stay off the roads), I’m wondering how that will affect the Bend WebCon 2 going on downtown today (from 11-3). I won’t be there either way, but … Continue reading

Rumor: The Bulletin opening up E-Edition

Tipster Stanislaw Funk today let drop that the Bulletin will soon be doing something new: offering free "E-Edition" access to subscribers of their dead-tree edition. If true, it’s a step in the right direction—when we had our Bulletin subscription I often wished I could also have online access to those … Continue reading

PR Blurb: 5 free DVD’s with Blu-Ray player purchase

This is sort of a mini-press release but it was a reasonable email pitch so I figured, why not. I don’t know what a Blu-Ray player goes for, but this doesn’t seem like a bad deal. Maybe someone who follows up on it could report back? Purchase your Blu-Ray player … Continue reading
