Dog Days of Summer

There are several fun events coming up this month for lucky dogs and their owners.

First on the calendar is Unleash the Vision, Saturday, August 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m across from McKay park. The day’s festivities include a talent show, photo booth, kissing booth (which I really want to see!), music, comedy and a barking auction. Beer will be provided by 10 Barrel and of course there will be food on hand. The main attraction is a Doggy Poker walk, which costs $20 to enter (or $15  if you bring a can of dog food) and gives you a chance to pick up dog swag along the way and win prizes at the end. Go here for all the details – http://feedinthepeople.org/.

Also this Saturday is the Race for the River, taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m in Riverbend Park. This is really open to all sorts that want to float the river, whether in kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or floats, in teams or as individuals. Registering with your dog ($30) gets you a Ruff Wear float coat to keep your best friend safe. Next weekend brings us the Ruff Run, Sunday, August 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., again in Riverbend Park. According to their website, “This event is to help support Dog Pac’s efforts to promote the health and enjoyment of dogs and their guardians through the provision of off-leash recreation opportunities in Central Oregon.” You don’t have to have a dog to participate, but there is a one-dog-per-person limit so maybe you can “borrow” one if someone you know has an extra. After the race, there will be other activities and contests, such as Hot Dog Bobbing and a Crazy River Retrieve Contest. See their website for registration details – http://www.dogpac.org/events.

Get out there and have some fun with those dogs!!
