Little Free Libraries

I’ve come across some of these lately, and perhaps you have too: Little Free Libraries. Have you wondered what they are? Wonder no more: “It’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. You can, too!”

Little Free Library in Old Town Bend

As a big fan of libraries in general, I love this idea, and I have to say, when you find one unexpectedly it’s a little bit like finding treasure. Plus I like the concept of free and community with projects like this.

The LFL website has a locations page where you can search for the Libraries around you (or by zipcode, city/state, etc.). Their Bend locations don’t appear to be complete, however; that picture I posted above is a Library I discovered at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Shasta Place, in Old Town near downtown, and I believe I just saw one the other day up on JD Estates Drive in northeast Bend (off of Deschutes Market Road).

What do you all think? Have you come across any Little Free Libraries not on the official map? Let me know if you have!
