You can check out more than just books at the Library

The library system is one of our greatest resources, for us as individuals and as a society, and locally the Deschutes Public Library does an amazing job offering many free services and events.

Everyone knows about checking out books, music, and movies from the library, of course. But did you know DPL also lets you borrow even more, “Beyond the Books“? If you didn’t, you do now! Among other things, you can check out:

Various kits from the Library of Things

There’s a wide variety of kits available, including bike repair kits, knitting and various craft kits, science kits, an Instant Pot kit, and ice cream maker kit, cake pan kits, musical kits, hiking kit, and more.

Board games

Over three dozen board games are available to borrow, ranging from classics like chess and Parcheesi to newer games like Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and more.

Maps

“Borrow atlases as well as road, trail and topographic maps for Central Oregon and beyond.” There are a few here that are in-library use only, but there are quite a few different maps here, including trail and wilderness maps.

Internet hotspots

It took me a second to get my head around this, but these are T-Mobile Franklin T9 Mobile Hotspot devices that will provide a wireless internet hotspot wherever you are (as long as you’re in range of a T-Mobile cellular network, I assume). Basically, free mobile wifi, and you can connect up to 5 of your own devices to use it.

There’s more to explore and it’s all pretty incredible, really, and makes the Library more of an essential resource than ever. Go check it all out!
